Each year, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Association (CVSA) runs a 72-hour safety blitz.  In 2022, over 59,000 inspections were completed. Inspectors from Canada, the Unites States and Mexico conduct inspections of commercial vehicles at weigh scale stations, designated inspection areas and along highways.

The emphasis for this year is anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and cargo securement.  ABS prevents wheels from locking up when braking, enabling drivers to have better control of the vehicle. Improper cargo securement poses a serious risk by affecting the vehicle’s maneuverability, or worse, causing unsecured loads to fall, resulting in traffic hazards and vehicle collisions.

Vehicle safety is important to all roadway users.  Commercial vehicle drivers, owners and companies should maintain vehicles at all times.  A routine check list “cheat sheet” can be found here to ensure you are meeting safety standards supported by agencies such as the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Transport Canada and Mexico’s Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation.
