Helmet Safety for Long Weekend Fun

This coming weekend is a long weekend for many people in Canada and the U.S.  Whether your region is recognizing February 20th as Family Day, Heritage Day, or President’s Day  (or something else!), many families will be outdoors enjoying activities such as skiing, skating or sledding. In warmer weather, activities of choice might be biking, roller skating or football. To ensure safety for all, make sure you and your children and teens are wearing the appropriate helmets for the chosen activity.

Helmets are the best defence against head injuries.  For maximum effectiveness, helmets must fit well, be worn properly, and be well maintained.  They must also be age-appropriate and certified for use.

There are many different types of helmets to choose from—be sure to wear the appropriate helmet for the activity.

Check out Which Helmets for Which Activity, published by Parachute Canada.

If your activity is not listed, there are also Fact Sheets on several types of helmets from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as a helmet-fit video.

Enjoy the long weekend and be SAFE!
